Meet the Board

Josh Cook picture

Joshua Cook

Josh is a career optician who recently attained his American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Advanced Certification. After graduating high school Josh picked up a “summer job” as an eyewear specialist at the local Visionworks. Josh quickly discovered that in order to do a good job helping people with glasses, he needed to learn more about opticianry.
Josh was proud to pass the ABO’s National Opticianry Competency Examination in 2008. He was apprenticed to a licensed optician in South Carolina, and completed the National Academy of Opticianry’s Career Progression Program. Upon moving to Pennsylvania in 2012, Josh was disappointed to find that Pennsylvania did not have an official association for opticians to help him develop and advance as an optician. Now, with support of the Opticians Association of America, key leaders within the state, and across the country, Josh is working to help build an organization devoted to empowering and promoting opticians in Pennsylvania. Josh is inspired by the life of Fred Rogers, best known as Mr. Rogers who said: “If only you could sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet… There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.”

Stefanie Whetsell

Stefanie Whetsell

Secretary / Marketing Committee Chair

While Stefanie is the new kid on the block, she is not at all unfamiliar with eye care and all it entails. In fact, you may describe her journey in opticianry as nothing short of Hobbit-esque. A native of NEPA (and Delaware transplant), she began working part-time positions as a receptionist in several opticals throughout the area. She was the Business Office Manager of Moscow Family Eye Care in Moscow, PA prior to moving to Delaware, where she was responsible for insurance billing and audits, frame board management, and patient education. After a brief hiatus in veterinary medicine, she is back working in optical, where she is apprenticing and working towards her ABO certification. Stefanie has a Master’s Degree in English Literature from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. In her spare time (haha!), she enjoys spending time with her husband (Dan), daughter (Penelope), and soul-cat (Thorin Kittyshield).

Judy Siviglia

Judy Siviglia

Treasurer / Convention Committee Chair

Judy began her career in the optical industry in 1983 as an apprentice optician. Before long she came to realize that contact lenses, rather than eyeglasses, held greater interest for her. She passed the NCLE exam in 1986 and continues to maintain that certification today.
Now, after retiring in 2021 from helping her husband run his eye care practice, She is happy to work one day a week in a busy optometric practice consulting, teaching, and supporting the staff in a variety of ways
Judy believes that serving as a board member of the OAP is an important opportunity to support and promote opticians and their valuable role in the eye care industry.

Charlie Saccarelli Picture

Charlie Saccarelli

Board Member / Strategic Committee Chair

Charlie Saccarelli, ABOM, FNAO is the owner and operator of Chadwick Optical, a unique company in Pennsylvania serving practitioners who serve patients with various vision conditions. He’s worked in every aspect of eyeglass manufacturing and dispensing since the late 1980’s. Charlie is a master optician that has lectured and led workshops internationally on homonymous hemianopsia, low vision, brain injury, and opticianry. In 2020, he was nominated for International Optician of the Year, is the Vice Chair of the Low Vision Division of the Vision Council and sits on the board of the Opticians Association of Pennsylvania. He and his company have provided material support for a number of revolutionary research grants in visual field loss and vision rehabilitation. They have created multiple grants to encourage optometrists to enter the field of low vision, and they regularly support ASCO’s special interest groups in low vision and neuro rehabilitation. While Charlie is absolutely fascinated with glasses, what really inspires him is visual perception. What does the world look like through your patient’s eye? What about their EYES? (It’s different). At least ⅔ of the data in our brain got there through our eyes, and he takes what we put in front of our eyes very seriously. When he’s not nerding out on glasses, he’s probably nerding out on some of his other interests, which include human behavior, yoga, process improvement, and outdoor survival.
